Female Entrepreneurship - 05/19/12

We started off the day with one of the things that I was most excited for on this trip - visiting Ginatu to order garments for ourselves and for our retailers! It was really neat, but also kind of stressful. I'm hoping I was able to clearly communicate everything that I wanted and that she will make exactly what I'm envisioning. I've never had someone make me something, but I have been on the other end of the spectrum, making things for people, so I know firsthand that misunderstandings can and do happen. But I'm hoping for the best and really excited about it! It was so awesome to be able to work with an experienced seamstress to make my ideas a reality. I seriously can't wait to see what she ends up doing with my fabrics and designs! After that we went to a place called Papaye for a delicious lunch and got temporarily trapped by our first serious rainstorm. Running out to the bus through the rain and getting drenched together was pretty fun though!

Afterwards, we headed to Inka's to start a tour that Pebbles arranged for us. Inka was seriously SO inspiring. Her jewelry was beautiful and she was just such a wonderful person to talk to (and we're both totally smitten with Vivienne Westwood!) I feel like she could've so big and just needs more resources and outlets. I love that Katie gave her ideas and I hope she is able to put some of that into action. We visited a few fabric and clothing shops next, my favorite of which was Poqua Poqu. It was absolutely amazing! The fabrics were traditional, as we're some design elements, but they completely reinvented things with lace, denim, new sillhouettes - it was awesome. A lot of stores selling clothing seem to have the same basic things so I really loved how this store differentiated themselves with great, unique products. After a seriously delicious meal out (absolutely my favorite meal I've had here so far), we came back to the hotel and there was a fashion show going on. I stayed for a few hours to watch before heading back to my room and I loved it. The designs were so wicked and I am absolutely feeling some inspiration for the next FDSA show or maybe even a new collection for my Etsy!
